Race Report

RACE-4 THE SUNFLOWER RATING 80-60 (CLASS 2&3) 1000 METRES (116
LITTLE MAGIC (C W CHOI) which was a little slow to begin was further hampered by MACAU WARRIOR (K L LEI) which jumped outwards.
Passing the 700 metres BUMPER YEAR (K W LEONG) hung out forcing SIU LAM KAM KONG (H LAM) and NATURAL TALENT (M NUNES) outward, both of which raced further wider on the track. SIU LAM KAM KONG and NATURAL TALENT were then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.
Rounding the home turn MACAU WARRIOR (K L LEI) was held up for clear running.
Jockey K M CHIN the rider of FAIR COMMENT pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the 200 metres he took his mount outwards when not clear of LITTLE MAGIC (C W CHOI) which had to be checked. Jockey K M CHIN’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 1 racemeeting (12th December 2009) and he was also fined the sum of HK$25,000 in lieu of 2 additional racemeetings. He was advised of his Right of Appeal at 6:50pm.
Near the 150 metres BUMPER YEAR (K W LEONG) was inconvenienced by MACAU WARRIOR (K L LEI) which shifted in.
The Stewards questioned Jockey M NUNES regarding the performance of NATURAL TALENT. Jockey M NUNES stated that he attempted to ride the horse forward, however it was caught wide and was then obliged to race wide throughout. He further added that although he was forced to travel wide, the horse was very disappointing and was under pressure prior to the 400 metres. A post race veterinary examination of NATURAL TALENT failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer G Allendorf was informed that he would be required to present NATURAL TALENT to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 6th December 2009. In addition NATURAL TALENT will be required to pass a barrier trial followed by a veterinary examination before being entered to race again.
The Stewards questioned Jockey K M CHIN the rider of FAIR COMMENT regarding his option to shift out shortly after straightening to obtain clear running when there might have been an opportunity of a run to the inside of BUMPER YEAR (K W LEONG). Jockey K M CHIN stated that shortly after straightening he elected to shift out to obtain clear running as he believed that this would have given the horse an unimpeded run to the finish and in his opinion the horse would be running on well in the final stages. He further added that he believed that there was no opportunity to obtain a run forward of him at that stage. His explanation was noted.
A post race veterinary examination of SIU LAM KAM KONG (H LAM) at the request of the rider failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
Subsequent to the race, swab samples were taken from MACAU WARRIOR (K L LEI) and NATURAL TALENT (M NUNES).
