Race Report

RACE-5 THE AUCKLAND RATING 80-60 (CLASS 2&3) 1000 METRES (337)
FAIR COMMENT (W H TSE), GRAND EAGLE (M NUNES), EASY BET (A CALDER) and NOTEVENOW (K M CHIN) were slowly away.
Near the 200 metres MACAU WARRIOR (W T PAO) and GOLDEN BULLET (T PEREIRA) bumped when MACAU WARRIOR shifted out slightly under pressure.
When questioned Jockey M NUNES the rider of GRAND EAGLE explained that it was his instructions to lead if possible, however after being loaded the gelding was fractious and jumped slowly. He said as a result he elected to steady and look for a position closer to the running rail rather than going forward and risk being caught wide. He said that after the 800 metres when racing inside other runners GRAND EAGLE raced greenly for some distance, however became more comfortable inside other horses as the race progressed. He added that when in clear running and placed under pressure GRAND EAGLE finished its race off well.
After the race the Veterinary Surgeon reported that EASY BET (A CALDER) and PERFECT STRIKE (K H CHIO) cast their right fore plate.
Subsequent to the race, swab samples were taken from MACAU WARRIOR (W T PAO) and SUPER VEGETABLE (K F CHOI)
