Race Report

RACE-4 THE DEEPWATER RATING 70-50 (CLASS 3) 1200 METRES (375)
TWINING OCEAN BOBO (L CORRALES) was fractious in the barriers.
TIME PRINCE (K M CHIN) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (J LERMYTE) which jumped awkwardly had to be steadied when crowded between BOWL BROTHERS (C W CHOI) which shifted out and FOREST (W SMITH) which was carried in by SMART SUPREME (W T PAO).
Near the 1100 metres POWER PURDEY (H LAM) steadied momentarily when crowded by GOLDEN BULLET (T PEREIRA) which was hanging and shifted in away from POWER ALKHAFIF (A SPITERI).
SMART SUPREME (W T PAO) raced wide rounding the turn.
Approaching the 400 metres SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (J LERMYTE) steadied momentarily and shifted outwards from behind POWER PURDEY (H LAM) which was losing ground.
Shortly after straightening POWER ALKHAFIF (A SPITERI) when attempting to improve into a narrow run to the inside of KA WANG FORTUNE (F DURSO) which was weakening, became crowded and bumped the running rail. At the same time KA WANG FORTUNE was momentarily crowded by FELSHAM (M NUNES) which shifted inwards. KA WANG FORTUNE (F DURSO) continued to weakened and shortly after the 300 metres TWINING OCEAN BOBO (L CORRALES) which was following was obliged to shift out around its heels and in doing so hampered BOWL BROTHERS (C W CHOI) which had to be steadied.
Near the 50 metres SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (J LERMYTE) which was making ground had to be shifted out around the heels of FELSHAM (M NUNES) to obtain clear running.
When questioned regarding the apparent disappointing performance of KA WANG FORTUNE, Jockey F DURSO said that in his opinion the horse had not been working as well previous to today’s start as it has done in the past. He said that today although the horse in his opinion was not comfortable on the yielding to soft track it did travel well until the 400 metres and commenced to weaken thereafter. Trainer K C CHONG was informed to present KA WANG FORTUNE to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 15th May 2011.
Jockey M NUNES stated that whilst parading to the barriers he initially felt that his horse was short in its actions. However after warming the horse up further, the horse’s action improved. He added that his horse raced keenly throughout the race, however was under pressure and failed to respond shortly after the 200 metres. Following the running of the race FELSHAM was sent for a swab and a post race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer A NGAI was informed that he would be required to present the horse to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 15th May 2011.
