Race Report

RACE-7 THE CHRISTMAS TREE RATING 70-40 (CLASS 3) 1800 METRES (167)
HOSTWIN CHAMPION (W T PAO) was slowly away.
SUNSHINE SURE WIN (APPRENTICE M CANGAS) and TURQUOISE DANE (K M CHIN) jumped awkwardly.
SON OF HEAVEN (K H YU) shifted out shortly after the start and hampered SILK CUT (F DURSO), FLAMING SWORD (M NUNES) and DRAGON WORLD (W L HO). In the circumstances Jockey K H YU was issued with a reprimand.
Near the 1600 metres SILK CUT (F DURSO) when being steadied to avoid the heels of TURQUOISE DANE (K M CHIN) shifted out and bumped DRAGON WORLD (W L HO).
SUNSHINE SURE WIN (APPRENTICE M CANGAS) raced wide from the 800 metres.
In the early and middle stages AMAZING EAGLE (H LAM) over raced badly.
In the middle stages SUN PROFIT (A SPITERI) over raced badly.
Rounding the home turn HOSTWIN CHAMPION (W T PAO) was checked and taken wider to obtain clear running when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SON OF HEAVEN (K H YU) which was giving ground. Shortly after HOSTWIN CHAMPION was again steadied and taken wider when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUNSHINE SURE WIN (APPRENTICE M CANGAS) which had commenced to give ground.
When questioned APPRENTICE M CANGAS the rider of SUNSHINE SURE WIN explained that after the 1400 metres as he was over racing and awkwardly placed close to the heels of runners forward of him, he elected to move away from the running rail to obtain more racing room. He said once racing in the one wide line his horse continued to over race and near the 1000 metres when LAUGHING WORLD (APPRENTICE C F WONG) commenced to give ground quickly in front of him he elected to move wider on the track and race in a more forward position in accordance with his pre-race instructions. He said as a result of this whilst he was able to race nearer the lead he was obliged to race 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the event. His explanations were noted.
After the race the veterinary surgeon reported that SON OF HEAVEN (K H YU) had cast its left fore plate.
