Race Report

RACE-6 HORSE RACE "IACM LUNAR NEW YEAR TROPHY" RATING 80-60 (CLASS 2&3) 1500 METRES (211)
RAYSON (A CALDER) over raced in the early stages.
MONTAQUILA (T PEREIRA) over raced in the early and middle stages.
Rounding the home turn BEST OF MANSION (W H TSE) hung out. Trainer M C TAM was advised that a warning had been placed on the horse.
In the straight BHUTANE DANE (K H YU) hung out.
When questioned in relation to the riding tactics adopted on AUGUST STAR, Jockey J GUILLAMBERT explained he was instructed to jump the horse out, take hold and try to obtain a position closer to the rail. He added that the gelding jumped awkwardly and when being restrained got its head in the air however he was able to obtain a position close to the rail, back in the field. Trainer M C TAM confirmed these instructions. The Stewards advised Trainer M C TAM that although they accepted his reasoning for having the horse racing back in the field as opposed to the horse’s usual racing position being forward in a race, he was advised that in future he would be required to report such riding tactics to the Stewards prior to the first race.
When questioned regarding the performance of MY DARK CHOCOLATE, Jockey F DURSO said that he was instructed to have the horse racing in a handier position than when previously raced over 1500 metres as in the opinion of the trainer the gelding no longer finishes off as strongly as it previously did. He said the horse was a little slow to begin and as such he had to ride hard and near the 1200 metres he had to steady to avoid the heels of RAYSON (A CALDER) which shifted in slightly. He said his horse was then obliged to race in a wide position thereafter and in the straight, only performed moderately when placed under pressure. His explanation was noted.
Jockey H LAM the rider of WEAR A SMILE pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not quite clear of RAYSON (A CALDER) resulting in that horse having to be checked, and then again at the 50 metres permitted his mount to shift in with RAYSON having to be checked on a second occasion. He was suspended from riding in races for the racemeetings of 3rd & 4th February 2012 and fined the sum of HK$16,000 in lieu of 2 additional racemeetings. He was advised of his Right of Appeal at 4:55 pm.
