Race Report

RACE-2 THE HOKITIKA (TURF) 3&4-YEAR-OLDS RATING 50-0 1400 METRES (82)
On the way to the barriers FIERCE WIND HORSE (L CORRALES) dislodged its rider. Jockey L Corrales was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and passed fit to continue riding. FIERCE WIND HORSE was inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
Following the running of the race, the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards review the replay of the home straight. However an objection was lodged by Mr. G ALLENDORF the trainer of LET IT BE (M NUNES), 3rd placed getter against CLASSICAL MUSIC (A HELFENBEIN) being declared 2nd place getter by the Judge alleging interference in the home straight. Evidence disclosed that LET IT BE had attempted a run to the inside CLASSICAL MUSIC, near the 200 metres. The Stewards were unable to be satisfied that LET IT BE had established rightful running to the inside of CLASSICAL MUSIC prior to that horse shifting back in, therefore the objection was overruled and weigh in was declared on the Judge’s placing.
CHINA CHEERS (APPRENTICE Y M CHOI) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and hampered SEALAND TREASURE (K K LAI) and VENETIAN EAGLE (M CANGAS).
Rounding the first turn CLASSICAL MUSIC (A HELFENBEIN) and CHINA CHEERS (APPRENTICE Y M CHOI) bumped resulting in CHINA CHEERS becoming unbalanced, shifted out and bumped SEALAND TREASURE (K K LAI) which in turn shifted out and bumped FIERCE WIND HORSE (L CORRALES) which shifted out and bumped ORIENTAL PARIS (B YAMZON). VIGOROUS MOMENTUM (T PEREIRA) which was following was hampered in consequence.
Near the 500 metres BRIGHT DRAGON (K M CHIN) was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CLASSICAL MUSIC (A HELFENBEIN). FIERCE WIND HORSE (L CORRALES) which was following was steadied.
LET IT BE (M NUNES) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
Trainer W T LAI was informed that ICELAKE (K F CHOI) which trailed the field throughout will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has passed a barrier trial.
ORIENTAL PARIS (B YAMZON) raced wide for the majority of the race.
