Race Report
RACE-3 L'ARC MACAU CHARITY TROPHY (TURF) RATING 80-60 (CLASS 2&3) 1200 METRES (171)
THEOLOGY (H LAM), GEELY SPIRIT (L JURADO) and MERRY WAY (M BOO) jumped awkwardly.
BOY FROM THE BAY (APPRENTICE Y M CHOI) jumped awkwardly with his head up.
Near the 700 metres BOY FROM THE BAY (APPRENTICE Y M CHOI) which was over racing was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GEELY SPIRIT (L JURADO) . BOY FROM THE BAY then shifted in abruptly resulting in RAYSON (F DURSO) having to be steadied. In the circumstances no action was taken.
Near the 500 metres Apprentice C PERKINS the rider of SCANDICMASTER dropped his whip. He was issued with a reprimand.
MERRY WAY (M BOO) raced wide rounding the home turn.
EASY MONEY (A HELFENBEIN), DYNASTY TREASURE (M CANGAS) and NORTHERN CHAMPION (B YAMZON) raced wide for the majority of the race.
When questioned regarding the performance of GEELY SPIRIT, Jockey L JURADO stated that the horse jumped awkwardly at the start and as result he obtained a position mid field. He added that the horse travelled well throughout the race, however had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. He further added that when he was able to apply pressure to GEELY SPIRIT, the gelding finished the race off only fairly. His explanation was noted. Trainer G W MOORE was informed that he would be required to present GEELY SPIRIT to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Monday, 14th January 2013.
When questioned regarding the performance of LUENYAT PLUS VALUE, Jockey L CORRALES stated that he was instructed to lead in today’s race, however, due to the speed of horses drawn to his inside, he was unable to obtain the lead, however was able to obtain a handy position. He added that rounding the home turn when racing between runners LUENYAT PLUS VALUE was uncomfortable in its action and was immediately under pressure. He further stated that when placed under additional pressure in the home straight his mount failed to respond. A post race veterinary examination LUENYAT PLUS VALUE failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer P C CHOI was informed that he would be required to present LUENYAT PLUS VALUE to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Monday, 14th January 2013.
When questioned regarding his ride on THEOLOGY, in particular from the 400 metres to the finish, Jockey H LAM stated that from barrier 1 he was instructed to have the horse in a mid back position and on the running rail so as to try save ground throughout the race. He stated that THEOLOGY jumped awkwardly today and settled at the back of the field and travelled well during the early and middle stages. He further stated that rounding the home turn he elected to shift to the inside to obtain clear running in an attempt to ride to instructions. He added that he had some difficulty obtaining clear running until the 200 metres, however when placed under pressure THEOLOGY only finished the race off fairly. Trainer G ALLENDORF confirmed the instructions and added that THEOLOGY has performed competitively when able to save ground in its races. Whilst the Stewards noted Jockey H LAM’s explanations, he was reminded of his obligations to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
A post race veterinary examination of NORTHERN CHAMPION (B YAMZON) failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
