Race Report

RACE-6 THE MILWAUKEE (TURF) RATING 70-50 (CLASS 3) 1200 METRES (406)

1 Golden Bullet (K K Lai) -Rider was dislodged behind the barrier and sustained an injury to his arm and was stood down by the Club’s Medical Officer. Subsequently the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse at 10:10pm.

5 Magic Bear (Apprentice C Perkins) -Raced wide for the majority of the event.

9 Diamond Whirlwind (L Jurado) – Was slow to jump.
10 Wonderful Four (A Calder)
11 Sunshine Gladiator (R Silvera)

INQUIRY:
Jockey A Calder the rider of 10 Wonderful Four explained that although his mount had previously won on soft going when able to lead in his opinion that was an easier race. He felt his mount was disappointing in that when asked near the 400 metres it failed to quicken in the vicinity of the 400 metres. He further stated that to his mind 10 Wonderful Four had struggled in the going.

Jockey K Abobo the rider of 2 Gold Coast explained that he had been instructed to attempt to lead if possible and to avoid being crowded as his mount had a long stride. He stated that due to the speed of the race his mount was forced to work harder than he desired in the early stages. He said that 2 Gold Coast had travelled well until the 400 metres but from the 200 metres had not responded to his riding.

Mr. M C Tam the trainer of 6 Hero Winner was asked if he could explain the apparent improved performance in this event. Mr. Tam stated that from the wide barrier he had instructed Jockey W Smith to attempt to settle midfield with cover if possible. He said that 6 Hero Winner was fitter from recent racing and was advantaged by the going and had gained ground at a vital stages entering the straight. Jockey W Smith confirmed the instructions and said he was surprised when other riders shifted away from the inside on straightening which had the effect of saving considerable ground. The Stewards advised Mr. Tam the explanation would be reported.

VETERINARY:
9 Diamond Whirlwind (L Jurado) -A post race veterinary examination at the request of the rider failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Wonderful Four (A Calder) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Gold Coast (K Abobbo) – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
