Race Report

RACE-6 THE DUNDEE RATING 60-30 (CLASS 3&4) 1800 METRES (212)

1 Boy From The Bay (Apprentice C F Wong) –In the vicinity of the 1400 metres raced keenly and hopped the entrance to the crossing near the 1300 metres.
3 Windsor Arch Three (R Curatolo) –In the early stages was obliged to race wide until the vicinity of the 1200 metres
6 Danpaoshaq (J Matthews) –At various stages raced wide; At the entrance into the straight was obliged to steady when tightened for room.
9 Laughing World (M Cangas) -Near the 1400 metres was obliged to steady off heels.
10 Sunshine Cheer Up (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Jumped awkwardly.
11 Ratnaraj (K K Lai) –In the vicinity of the 1400 metres became awkward on heels for several strides. Rider reported that the cross nose band strap broke and his mount had the desire to over race and at various stages was inclined to hang out. Trainer W T Lai was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards questioned Apprentice Y M Choi as to his riding of 10 Sunshine Cheer Up into the reasons for him to lead after entering the back straight. Apprentice Y M Choi explained that he was instructed to lead and if unable to lead to hold his position and look for an opportunity to settle more forward in the vicinity of the 1200 metres. He said that passing the winning post he would not have the speed to lead and making the first turn he became aware that Jockey K K Lai racing to his inside was in some difficulty and in attempting to allow sufficient room for that rider raced wide. He said that from the 1200 metres rather than continued to be wide he allowed his mount to stride forward in order to position closer to the inside rails, however moving along side 1 his mount commenced to over race and fought his attempts to restrain. He stated from the vicinity of the 500 metres his mount had commenced to give ground.

The Stewards questioned Jockey R Curatolo as to his riding of 3 Windsor Arch Three and in particular the circumstances in which he was trapped wide making the first turn. Jockey R Curatolo explained that he was not issued specific instructions other than to ride his own race as he had ridden the horse previously. He stated that from the start he had attempted to ride forward in an endeavour to position 3 Windsor Arch Three forward in the race. However passing the winning post had realized that he would be trapped wide and then attempted to restrain his mount in an attempt to obtain cover. He stated that had raced three wide with cover for most of the back straight but when asked to improve into the race from the vicinity of the 600 metres 3 Windsor Arch Three had not made ground as easily as it had in previous starts. After considered this explanation and reviewing the official vision, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed to allow Trainer A Ngai to be present.

3 Windsor Arch Three (R Curatolo) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Ratnaraj (K K Lai) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
