Race Report

RACE-3 THE PORTO ALEGRE RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (353)

3 Luen Yat Sure Win (C Perkins)-Knuckled on jumping. Approaching the 200 metres rolled out and contacted 6 At First Glance.
5 Good Racing (R Silvera)-Jumped awkwardly. Trainer K W Chan was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
6 At First Glance (B Yamzon)-Approaching the 200 metres rolled in and contacted 3 Luen Yat Sure Win.
11 Charming Shanghai (W T Pao)-Knuckled on jumping. Near the 700 metres commenced to give ground and was eased from the 400 metres.
12 Truly Heart (Apprentice C F Wong)-Had been restless in the gates and was then slow to jump.

INQUIRY
Mr. D Wong representative of Trainer V Chong was questioned as to whether 8 Hit The Bull (A Calder) had been trained in public within the previous 7 days as instructed. Mr. Wong stated that 8 Hit The Bull had trained everyday as was the stable’s custom. It was one of the first horses on the track at about 4:50am. The Stewards noted Mr. Wong’s explanation was in contrast to the Club’s record and further investigations will be conducted.

Jockey L Corrales the rider of 4 Magic Paul explained that in today’s longer race he had expected 4 Magic Paul to settle closer to the speed on a slower tempo which should have suited his mount. He said that after obtaining a good position in running from the 500 metres 4 Magic Paul was under pressure and didn’t quicken or give him the same feel as at its previous start. He added that he was surprised that 4 Magic Paul was blowing hard post race. The Stewards questioned Mr. K C Wong the trainer of 4 Magic Paul in regards to the rider’s comments. Mr K C Wong explained that although 4 Magic Paul worked every day, riders had difficulty managing the horse and only one of his staff could handle the horse successfully which restricted his ability to work this horse in a normal manner. He said that as a consequence 4 Magic Paul did not gallop and he had to rely on jump outs and trials for its fast work. He felt in his opinion for this reason 4 Magic Paul would benefit from its first start in a longer race and added in the inside draw might have contributed to the horse’s performance today.

4 Magic Paul (L Corrales) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
