Race Report

RACE-4 THE BRIGADIER GERARD RATING 50-30 (CLASS 4&5) 1350 METRES (248)

3 Captain Genuki (H Lam) –Near the 700 metres laid in despite the effort of its rider and raced tight with 2 Smart Supreme.
7 Voguish (R Curatolo) –Examined on arrival at the barriers at the request of its rider and passed fit to run; Marginally slow to begin.
8 Active Power (W L Ho) –Disappointing; A post race veterinary examination was ordered by the Stewards.
9 Only Pearl (W T Pao) –For some distance passing the 800 metres raced fiercely.
10 Diamond Whirlwind (C Perkins) –Stood flat footed when the gate were released and lost considerable ground. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial; Rider explained that after being slow to begin his mount never travelled well throughout the event and highlighted the fact that 10 Diamond Whirlwind does not handle the sand and would perform better on the grass surface.

INQUIRY:
Correct Weight was delayed to allow the Steward to review the films of the start. It was established that as the start was effected 10 Diamond Whirlwind (C Perkins) stood flat footed losing considerable ground. The Stewards were satisfied that 10 Diamond Whirlwind had been afforded a fair start and Correct Weight was declared.

Jockey D Chong the rider 6 Chilli Boy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that after passing the 700 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 9 Only Pearl (W T Pao) which was tightened onto 8 Active Power (W L Ho). As a result 9 Only Pearl lost its rightful running and had to be checked and 8 Active Power which was tightened onto the running rail also losing its position. Jockey D Chong had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of 10th & 17th April 2015. When arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey D Chong’s guilty plea and his riding record. They also considered the incident in the mid range. Jockey D Chong was advised of his Right of Appeal at 5:17pm.

VETERINARY:
8 Active Power (W L Ho) –A post race veterinary examination of 8 Active Power which performed poorly failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
