Race Report

RACE-5 THE PANYU RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (430)

2 Total Management (W L Ho) –Disappointing; Rider could offer no real excuses; A post race veterinary examination was ordered by the Stewards.
6 Mission Fame (H Lam) –Raced keenly through the early and middle stages and steadied off heels approaching the 600 metres.
8 Hand By Hand (Apprentice K Y Wong) –Raced wide throughout.
10 Modena Creation (M Cangas) –Trainer was fined the sum of HK$1,000 under the provisions of MJC Rule 14 (xvii)(a) for having presented the horse in the wrong gear; Approaching the 250 metres was checked over the heels of 1 Will Go On (W Smith) when taken out by 6 Mission Fame (H Lam); In all the circumstances Rider H Lam was reprimanded and advised to exercise far more care in future.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Jockey L Salles the rider of 4 Super Giant Star pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of MJC Rule 132 (i) in that shortly after straightening, he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 2 Total Management (W L Ho) which was tightened between that gelding and 8 Hand By Hand (Apprentice K Y Wong) and lost its rightful running and had to be checked. In laying the charge, the Stewards acknowledged that there may have been a slight shift inwards from 8 Hand By Hand during the latter part of this incident. Jockey L Salles’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings. The suspension to take effect for the first two meetings of the 2015/16 Racing Season. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his good record, his guilty plea and the degree of the interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards questioned Jockey H Lam regarding his riding of 6 Mission Fame, in particular his actions rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Jockey H Lam explained that he had been instructed to ride the gelding back and save ground close to the rail as he had ridden the horse in that manner with success in the past. He added that after passing the 400 metres he initially intended to take the run to the outside of 5 Turquoise Lucky (C F Chan), however when that gelding shifted out in front of him, he then elected to shift inwards to obtain a run. At that moment 2 Total Management (W L Ho) which was racing to the inside and ahead of 5 Turquoise Lucky was checked and lost ground quickly. For this reason he ultimately shifted back to the outside of 5 Turquoise Lucky to get clear running. Trainer Pat Lee confirmed the instructions and highlighted that the gelding had been successful when ridden in that manner in the past and that he was satisfied with the ride bearing in mind that the interference after straightening had an impact on 6 Mission Fame. A post race veterinary examination was ordered and the horse will be sent for further examination on Sunday, 23rd August 2015.

VETERINARY:
2 Total Management (W L Ho) –A post race veterinary examination of 2 Total Management which was disappointing failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Super Giant Star (L Salles) –A post race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was lame in the left foreleg; Trainer C F Chan was informed that it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
6 Mission Fame (H Lam) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that he would be required to present the horse to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 23rd August 2015.
