Race Report

RACE-2 THE JUNK BAY RATING 60-30 (CLASS 3&4) 1800 METRES (226)

1 Bingo Fantasy (W Smith) –Raced wide without cover until near the 1200 metres.
2 Flying Team (K H Yu) –Near the 1500 metres had to be steadied. Was inclined to race fiercely in the middle stages. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight was held up and unable to establish clear running until near the 200 metres.
3 Master Kabiddi (M Cangas) –Raced wide without cover leaving the 1200 metres.
8 Happy Fish (L Salles) –Was resaddled behind the barriers. Jumped away awkwardly.
10 Lucky Station (M Wepner) –Was marginally slow to begin and shortly after the start made contact with 1 Bingo Fantasy. Near the 1400 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 Bright Alloy. Performed below market expectations. Rider reported that after having to be eased passing the winning post on the first occasion, his mount was under constant pressure to maintain its position. He added he attempted to improve his position on entering the back straight, however 3 Master Kabiddi shifted out and improved in front of him resulting in him having to restrain his mount so as not to be caught racing extremely wide. He further added that from the 800 metres his mount did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in its performance. The Stewards noted his explanation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1500 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey K H Yu the rider of 2 Flying Team and Jockey M Cangas the rider of 3 Master Kabiddi. It was established that leaving the 1500 metres at the point of the turn, 2 Flying Team had to be steadied off the heels of 3 Master Kabiddi which when inclined to lay in, shifted in slightly. After considering all of the circumstances the Stewards issued Jockey M Cangas the rider of 3 Master Kabiddi with a severe reprimand and advised him that in their opinion he should have made a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting in at that point of the race.
