RACE-3 THE REINDEER RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1200 METRES (59)
7 Itsashame (Apprentice X C Liang) - Raced three wide without cover throughout. Beaten favorite. Rider stated he anticipated the pace of the race was going to be strong, hence he elected to follow the leaders. However, in doing so, his mount was racing wide without cover. He pointed out that the horse was having its first start on turf and found today’s going not suitable as his mount was unbalanced on several occasions. He finally stated after the race his mount was making an unusual respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality
10 Dawson (S H Huang) - Near the 200 metres, had to be steadied when tightened for room between 11 City Gold Master and 9 Turquoise Success.
12 Ting Ting Yu Li (C L Cheung) - When questioned, rider stated his instruction was to position the horse in mid-field, however on jumping it received pressure from both sides, resulting in his mount to race at the back of the field. He added throughout the race, his mount travelled comfortably to the home straight. Near the 200 metres, whilst the horse was finishing off the race well, he had to steady his mount away from heels of 6 Trophy Winner. After that his mount continued to close the race off well.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 200 metres. I Poullis, rider of 11 City Gold Master, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out, taking 10 Dawson outwards and resulting in 10 Dawson having to be checked. I Poullis had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 race day, with the date to be confirmed. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his good record, the level of interference and degree of careless. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
