RACE-5 MACAU SPRINT TROPHY (GROUP 3) RATING 4YO 1200 METRES (333)

1 Lucky And Wealthy (W Smith) -Examined prior to the start and ruled fit to start.
2 Geely Spirit (F Durso) -Jumped away awkwardly.
4 Smiling Happy (R B Woodworth) -Near the 900 metres obliged to ease off heels.
5 Wonder Mossman (W L Ho) -Slow to jump.
6 Happy Proposal (M Cangas) -Near the 1000 metres inconvenienced.
7 Belgrade Nights (K Abobo) -Near the 1000 metres eased when tightened for room; Near the 700 metres dipped; Near the 300 metres taken in by another runner.
8 Precious Eclair (L Corrales) -Slow to jump.
9 Spring (R Silvera) –Slow to jump.
11 Luenyat Plus Value (C Grylls) -Jumped very awkwardly and struck the side of its gate; Inside the 1000 metres as the pace eased over raced and was obliged to be steady away from heels brushing the running rail.
12 Captain Sunshine (A Calder) -Jumped away awkwardly; In the early and middle stages over raced when being restrained.

INQUIRY: The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 7 Belgrade Nights (K Abobo) was obliged to steady near the 1000 metres when racing inside 4 Smiling Happy (R B Woodworth) . It was established that 7 Belgrade Nights was forced to steady when tightened for room by 4 Smiling Happy which after being taken into a neat position by 10 Depot Beach (R Stewart) had rolled in of its own accord as the pace eased. Jockey R Stewart was reprimanded and advised in future to give riders the room to which they are entitled. Jockey R B Woodworth was reprimanded in that there was no apparent attempt to release the pressure once applied.

The Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey F Durso the rider of 2 Geely Spirit. Jockey F Durso explained that in contrast to recent runs 2 Geely Spirit had not shown its usual pace, had never travelled and was inclined to lay in. He added that given its actions the gelding may be feeling its legs.
