Race Report

RACE-6 MACAU GOLD CUP (TRIPLE CROWN-3RD LEG) (GROUP 1) OPEN 1800 METRES (419)

1 Elderly Paradise (A Calder) -Near the 200 metres was eased to avoid heels.
3 Oakcrest Drive (W Smith) -Cast its right fore plate during the running.
5 Lucky And Wealthy (J Moreira) -Approaching the 1500 was obliged to steady losing its position.
9 Master Of Puppets (L Corrales) - At the1600 metres was brushed and unbalanced briefly.
10 Smiling Happy (R B Woodworth) –From the vicinity of the 700 metres commenced to give ground. From the 300 metres was eased out of the event.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 5 Lucky And Wealthy (J Moreira) was forced to steady losing its position in the vicinity of the 1500 metres. It was established that in the vicinity of the 1500 metres, 1 Elderly Paradise (A Calder) shifted in resulting in 5 Lucky And Wealthy (J Moreira) being checked and losing its position. Jockey A Calder was charged with careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that he allowed 1 Elderly Paradise to shift in when insufficiently clear. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was suspended for a period of 2 days to take effect for the racemeetings of Friday the 2nd and Saturday the 10th August 2013. At 8:05pm Jockey A Calder was informed of his Right of Appeal.

Jockey A Calder the rider of 1 Elderly Paradise explained that although his mount was obliged to work from the wide barrier, after taking a sit he was happy with his position leaving the 1000 metres. He stated that in the vicinity of the 700 metres his mount was under immense pressure to hold its position and in the straight had laid. As 1 Elderly Paradise had previously won on heavy tracks A Calder said he was reluctant to blame the going and the only explanation that he could provide is that the horse had not enjoyed the kickback at various stages of the race.

VETERINARY:
1 Elderly Paradise (A Calder) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Smiling Happy (R B Woodworth) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer was informed that he would be required to present 10 Smiling Happy to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 28th July 2013.
