Race Report

RACE-3 THE MACAU RACE HORSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION CHARITY TROPHY RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1200 METRES (242)

5 Sherwood (A Calder) –Jumped awkwardly shortly after became unbalanced when brushed; Approaching the 1000 was inconvenienced when taken in for several strides.
10 Sunshine Dragon (C Perkins) –Approaching the 1000 metres was forced to check off heels.

INQUIRY:

The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 10 Sunshine Dragon (C Perkins) was forced to check approaching the 1000 metres. It was established that approaching the 1000 metres 4 Care Free Express (C F Chan) had shifted in into the running line of 10 Sunshine Dragon causing that horse to be checked to avoid heels. In this incident 10 Sunshine Dragon was taken in onto 5 Sherwood (A Calder) which was inconvenienced. Jockey C F Chan pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that he permitted 4 Care Free Express to shift in when insufficiently clear. Jockey C F Chan was suspended from riding in races for 2 racemeetings to take effect on 4th and 11th April 2014. He was advised of his Right of Appeal at 4:44pm. In determining this penalty, the Stewards acknowledged Jockey C F Chan’s plea of guilty and in mitigation noted that both10 Sunshine Dragon and 5 Sherwood (A Calder) which had drawn outside of 4 Care Free Express had improved to its inside.

Jockey R Curatolo the rider of 11 The Tornado explained that he felt his mount had not travelled as well as in its previous races and although he had no issues with the horse’s action during the race, he noted on pulling up it was lame in front.

VETERINARY:
3 Golden Bullet (K H Yu) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 The Tornado (R Curatolo) –A post race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was lame in the left foreleg. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
