INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 9 Rush'N Prince (B Yamzon) was forced to check when attempting to improve outside the heels of 5 Sunshine Spirit (W L Ho) inside the 100 metres. The Stewards established that approaching the 100 metres 9 Rush'N Prince (B Yamzon) had improved to the outside of 5 Sunshine Spirit which then commenced to shift out. 5 Sunshine Spirit continued to shift out under riding taking 9 Rush'N Prince out to the heels of 7 Windsor Arch Three (R Curatolo) which had rolled in resulting in 9 Rush'N Prince being forced to check losing its position. After considering the evidence and reviewing the official vision Jockey W L Ho pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that he permitted 5 Sunshine Spirit to shift ground when insufficiently clear. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of 4 racemeetings. After receiving a submission from Jockey W L Ho, the Stewards amended this penalty to take effect for the racemeetings of 11th, 18th and 20th April 2014. In addition a fine of HK$25,000 was imposed in lieu of 1 day suspension. Jockey W L Ho was informed of his Right of Appeal at 6:24pm.

L Corrales the rider of 8 explained that he had been instructed to ride 8 Magnificent Force (L Corrales) in a similar manner as its previous start. He stated his mount showed no early speed but had travelled well however when the pace quickened markedly near the 600 metres 8 Magnificent Force was off the bridle and under pressure. He added that in the straight his mount had continued to finish off its race but had not shown the same sprint it had at its previous start in a shorter race.

The Stewards questioned K H Yu the rider of 1 Golden Shooter and C F Wong the rider of 6 Boy From The Bay regarding their riding from the 1200 metres. K H Yu explained that he had been instructed to attempt to settle in 3rd, 4th or 5th position which was consistent with 1 Golden Shooter’s usual racing pattern. He stated that after being three wide making the first turn his mount had commenced to race keenly and joined 6 Boy From The Bay of its own accord. He said that in the vicinity of the 1100 metres he considered C F Wong was prepared to take a trailing position however he had been unable to clear 6 Boy From The Bay as that horse continued to race keenly but he had not pressed forward as he considered his mount would have worked too hard so he elected to sit quietly and maintain his position. C F Wong explained that he had been instructed to lead if possible however if other runners pressed forward to attempt to take a trailing position. He said that in the vicinity of the 1100 metres he had attempted to restrain when joined by 1 Golden Shooter to obtain a sit but his mount had resisted his attempts and continued to race keenly. After considering both explanations and reviewing the official vision the Stewards accepted both explanations.
