Race Report

RACE-5 THE CHARLOTTESVILLE RATING 60-30 (CLASS 3&4) 1600 METRES (17)

1 Turquoise Song (B Yamzon) – Jumped awkwardly; Raced wide leaving the 700 metres.
3 Wind Chaser (H Lam) –Raced wide throughout; Near the 700 metres bumped with 7 War Heights; Rounding the home turn was brushed by 5 St Chalan which was taken out slightly by 12 Luen Yat Supreme.
6 Trust My Bet (M Cangas) –Was inclined to hang out leaving the 1400 metres and did so for a considerable distance; Near the 900 metres blundered and became severely unbalanced of its own accord. Trainer James Moore was informed that a warning had been placed against the horse in respect of its racing manners.
7 War Heights (K K Lai) – Jumped awkwardly. Near the 700 metres bumped with 3 Wind Chaser.
8 Good Racing (K W Leong) –Jumped very awkwardly and lost ground.

INQUIRY:
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on 14 Delight Consul, in particular the reasons for the horse leading in tonight’s race, Jockey W T Pao stated that it was his first time riding the horse and he was instructed to try and get the horse to jump well as it has a tendency to be a slow beginner. He further stated he was also instructed that as there were 6 or 7 horses with speed drawn to the outside, if he was to begin well to try and obtain a forward position. He added that the horse began well and in the early stages he rode forward in an attempt to obtain a forward position, however racing to the first turn horses had still not crossed to the running rail so he elected to improve and was able to obtain the lead. Trainer Pat Lee confirmed that as the horse is a slow beginner, he had instructed Jockey W T Pao to try and get a good jump, however explained that he did not instruct him to take up a forward position. He added that he had informed Jockey W T Pao that as there were 6 to 7 horses with speed out wide, he should ride forward from his inside barrier and expected the horse to be ridden mid field with cover. Jockey W T Pao added that he may have misunderstood his instructions. After considering all of the evidence Jockey W T Pao was advised that his explanations would be noted, however was severely admonished that as a senior rider he is to fully understand his instructions and that he would be expected to ride in a manner that does not leave room for question.
