Race Report

RACE-1 THE NEWCASTLE RATING 30-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1500 METRES (221)

2 Power Tycoon (H Lam) –Slow to begin (2L); Trainer C Marshall was informed a warning had been placed on the gelding and should it perform in a similar manner in future further action may be taken.
3 Twiningoceanstarbo (W L Ho) –Shortly after the start was steadied when tightened for room and as a result lost ground. Disappointing performance; Rider stated that the gelding was carrying a big weight tonight and failed to respond to his riding when put under pressure; A post race veterinary examination and swab was ordered by the Stewards,

INQUIRY:
The Stewards questioned Jockey K H Yu the rider of 6 Kao’s Star as to the reason why he led today on the gelding which had been settling at the rear of the field at recent starts. Jockey K H Yu explained that he had ridden the horse forward previously and had won on it and he had been instructed to ride it forward tonight. Trainer S Chow confirmed the instructions and said to the Stewards that at the gelding’s most recent starts the riders were told to lead but the gelding was unable to do so. He added that he discovered after its most recent start it had some hoof problems and had successfully under gone treatment. Whilst acknowledging that Trainer S Chow had been issuing the same instructions for 6 Kao's Star, the Stewards nevertheless advised him that if he envisaged the gelding racing much forward than usual, he must advise the Stewards. He was also reminded of his obligations to inform the Stewards of any circumstances or reasons that may have affected the performance of his horses.

When questioned as to why he remained wide when there was ample opportunity to obtain a position closer to the fence after entering the back straight Jockey L Salles the rider of 8 Cargo Money explained that he was of the opinion that the going was superior three to four off the rail. Jockey Salles added that he was continually niggling his mount to stay in contact with the field throughout the event.

VETERINARY:
3 Twiningoceanstarbo (W L Ho) –A post race veterinary examination 3 Twiningoceanstarbo which was disappointing failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
