Race Report

RACE-4 THE SHAHRASTANI RATING 50-30 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (254)

3 Explosive Blast (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Rider reported his saddle slipped near the 800 metres.
5 Happy Proposal (W T Pao) –Near the 350 metres had to be steadied, when weakening and tightened for room.
8 Wind Chaser (W L Ho) –Leaving the straight on the first occasion was hampered and taken in off its course by 7 Happy School Boy which shifted in and away from 2 Nata Way.
10 Smart Ebony (C F Chan) –Disappointing; Rider stated the gelding which trailed the field throughout the event did not handle the sand track; A post race veterinary examination was ordered by the Stewards.

INQUIRY:
When questioned as to why he led today on the gelding which normally settles towards the rear of the field, Jockey W T Pao the rider of 5 Happy Proposal explained that it had not been his instructions to lead, however he did take up a forward position in an endeavour to get close to the rail in the early stages and his mount then commenced to over race leaving him in a forward position. He added his mount hung out rounding the first turn.

Jockey K W Leong was questioned regarding his riding of 9 Rivers Elite. He explained that the gelding resents the kick back from the sand, for this reason he was content to race wide and he added that the gelding was lazy and due to the pace of the event constantly put his mount under pressure to attempt to keep it travelling. Jockey K W Leong further explained that for these reasons his mount failed to run on in the straight. The Stewards notified Jockey K W Leong that at some stage he would be expected to give his mounts time to settle and they may then be able to finish off their races. Jockey K W Leong was advised that a senior rider of his experience would be expected to show more initiative than he did on this occasion and Stewards would be monitoring his riding closely in future.

VETERINARY:
10 Smart Ebony (C F Chan) –A post race veterinary examination of 10 Smart Ebony which was disappointing failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
