Race Report

RACE-5 THE BRENTFORD (DIV.2)RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1400 METRES (380)
On weighing in APPRENTICE C PERKINS the rider of the second-placed FLORENCE ELITE weighed in at 115.6lbs after having previously been weighed out at 117lbs. As the one-pound allowance under the rules did not result in APPRENTICE C PERKINS making his declared weight of 117 pounds, FLORENCE ELITE was disqualified from its second placing under MJC rule 141(iii) and the placings were amended to read as follows:
1st MACAU EAGLE (APPRENTICE M CANGAS)
2nd MONEY COME (APPRENTICE Y M CHOI)
3rd GOLDEN NUMBER ONE (K H YU)
4th SOVEREIGN BEAT (L CORRALES)
Upon Inquiry it was established that Trainer K H LEONG had been granted permission to saddle FLORENCE ELITE in its stable, as a consequence of this permission the weigh-out for APPRENTICE C PERKINS had taken place immediately following the running of Race 3 resulting in C PERKINS being required to fulfill his riding engagements in two races before being required to weigh in on FLORENCE ELITE. Evidence from the clerk of scales revealed that the riding gear used by C PERKINS to weigh out for FLORENCE ELITE was exactly the same as the riding gear which was used to weigh in following the race. As the Stewards were satisfied these were extraordinary circumstances, no action was taken against APPRENTICE C PERKINS or Trainer K H LEONG. As a consequence of this incident, there will be an immediate review of the MJC policy of allowing horses to be saddled in their stables.
MAKE MY HEART SING (B YAMZON), SOVEREIGN BEAT (L CORRALES), HOSTWIN WINNERS (K M CHIN) and LET GO (F DURSO) all jumped awkwardly.
WONDERFUL EXPRESS (M NUNES) and FLORENCE ELITE (APPRENTICE C PERKINS) raced wide rounding the first turn.
Near the 800 metres MAKE MY HEART SING (B YAMZON) became unbalanced and brushed the rail.
HOSTWIN WINNERS (K M CHIN) raced wide rounding the turn.
Near the 200 metres BOWL BROTHERS (W SMITH) shifted out away from WONDERFUL EXPRESS (M NUNES) resulting in ELDERLY WIN (K F CHOI) being bumped and becoming unbalanced.
A post race veterinary examination of MAKE MY HEART SING (B YAMZON) failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer P LEYSHAN was advised that MAKE MY HEART SING will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has passed a barrier trial and a veterinary certificate is provided.
