Race Report

RACE-1 THE SAGRES RATING SPECIAL (SPECIAL) 1500 METRES (360)

3 Windsor Arch (W L Ho) –Over raced and got its head in the air near the 800 metres; Poor performance; Rider advised that his mount was not striding out after the 1400 metres; A post race veterinary examination was ordered by the Stewards; Beaten 30L; Trainer A Ngai was informed that the horse will not be permitted for 11 days and until it has performed competitively in an official barrier trial.
4 Just Go With It (L Corrales) –Got its head up racing very ungenerously passing the 1000 metres; Near the 700 metres clipped heels and blundered.
9 Delight Consul (C F Wong) –When the gates were released lowered its head and as a result missed the start considerably (3L); Was then slow to muster speed and then raced wide without cover.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Correct weight was delayed to allow the Stewards an opportunity to view the patrol film to ascertain whether 9 Delight Consul (C F Wong) had been afford a fair start. It was established that as the the gates were released 9 Delight Consul lowered its head and as a result missed the start considerably (3L). The Stewards were satisfied that 9 Delight Consul had not been denied a fair start and as such was deemed a starter.

The Stewards questioned Jockey C F Wong as to why he raced excessively wide for no apparent reason in the back straight. He explained that after his mount had been slow to begin it was his intention to find cover, however near the 1200 metres his mount shifted out when being steadied off heels which placed him wider on the track. Jockey Wong further added that he then attempted to ride forward with the intention of obtaining a position closer to the rail, however he was unable to do so and as a result raced wider than he would have wished. The Stewards advised Jockey Wong that his ride lacked judgment and that he should have obtained cover when he had ample opportunity to do so for some distance after passing the 1200 metres. They further advised Jockey C F Wong that he would be expected far greater judgment in the riding of all his mounts in future.

Jockey R Curatolo the rider of 1 Super Giant Star was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 700 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 7 Modena World (R Stewart) resulting in that gelding clipping the heels of 1 Super Giant Star. His licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings to cover the meetings of 18th and 24th July 2015. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into consideration mitigating circumstances including the racing manners of 7 Modena World R Curatolo plea and his recent record. Stewards deemed the incident to be in the mid range. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

VETERINARY:
3 Windsor Arch (W L Ho) –A post race veterinary examination of 3 Windsor Arch which performed poorly failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
