Race Report

RACE-4 THE ALMAHMOUD RATING 80-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1800 METRES (375)

1 Fortune Smiles (B Yamzon) –Poor performance; Rider could offer no real excuses for the poor performance and said that his mount failed to respond to his riding.
2 Lucky Winston (W T Pao) –Near the 600 metres had to be steadied to avoid the heels of 1 Fortune Smiles which shifted in slightly before being straightened by its rider.
5 Northern Legend (L Corrales) –Turning out of the straight stumbled behind and became unbalanced; For some distance rounding the home turn was held up when unable to improve its position.
7 Sunshine Godsend (R Stewart) – Race wide without cover throughout.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards questioned Jockey W T Pao regarding the riding tactics employed on 2 Lucky Winston. Jockey W T Pao explained that the gelding jumped well however did not show any speed early, and he obtained a position close to the rail with cover. He added that he was hampered by 1 Fortune Smiles (B Yamzon) which shifted in in front of him rounding the turn. He further added that as the gelding was stepping up in distance from 1500 metres to 1800 metres that he was reluctant to place it under pressure too early and when he did so the gelding was one paced. A post race veterinary examination of 2 Lucky Winston was ordered and it failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

Stewards notified WT Pao that they had significant concerns with the manner in which he rode his mount, particularly his actions rounding the home and in the straight, and if after further inquiry any information comes to light that should warrant further investigation Stewards will revisit his ride on Lucky Winston.

VETERINARY:
1 Fortune Smiles (B Yamzon) – A post race veterinary examination of 1 Fortune Smiles which performed poorly failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
