RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances surrounding the late scratching of second emergency 14 Final Impression on veterinary advice at 2.30pm, due to that gelding having swelling in both hind legs and an elevated blood count. Final Impression had obtained a run on Thursday afternoon, ahead of first emergency 13 Modena Success, due to the withdrawal of another runner and the subsequent application of the MJC Policy in regards to the maximum number of starters a trainer may have in any one race when there is a full field. 13 Modena Success was ultimately eliminated this morning when there were no further withdrawals in this race by the scratching deadline of 8am.
Trainer K Seo advised that 14 Final Impression passed a pre race vet inspection on the morning of Thursday 28 August and there were no issues with the gelding at that time. However Thursday afternoon and this morning 14 Final Impression was showing some signs of swelling in its hind legs but in his opinion was sound and fit to race. He added that when he inspected the gelding this afternoon there was significant swelling in its hind legs and for this reason it was taken to the Veterinary Hospital where a blood test was taken that revealed an elevated blood count.
Trainer K Seo was advised that given these particular circumstances, including that he had an indication that all was not right with 14 Final Impression well prior to the 8am scratching deadline, it would have been reasonable for him to have that horse examined by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the scratching deadline, and if the veterinary advice was such, the horse could have been withdrawn in a timely manner without denying any other horse a start.

VETERINARY:
9 Friends Galore (A Calder) –A post race veterinary examination revealed that it had suffered a bleeding attack.
11 Double Success (L Corrales) –A post race veterinary examination of 11 Double Success which performed poorly failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
