3 Kao's Star (Apprentice Y M Choi) -Approaching the 800 metres was obliged to steady off heels as the pace eased. Trainer was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has passed a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
5 Happy School Boy (K M Chin) -Approaching the 800 metres when improving clipped the heels of another runner as the pace eased.
7 Court In New York (W L Ho) -At the request of the rider was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and ruled fit to race.
11 White Pearl (R B Woodworth) -Jumped very awkwardly and then propped when brushed.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 5 Happy School Boy (K M Chin) and 3 Kao's Star (Apprentice Y M Choi) suffered interference near the 800 metres. It was established that 13 Mission Fortune (K K Lai) which was initially clear of runners to its inside commenced to cross 5 Happy School Boy (K M Chin) and 3 Kao's Star when easing the pace and in consequence 5 Happy School Boy improved and clipped its heels and 3 Kao's Star was obliged to steady. Jockey K K Lai was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances in future he would be required to not ease his mounts to put other riders in difficulties.

Jockey K W Leong the rider of 9 The Prime which had raced more forward in recent starts was questioned in regards to his instructions and his reasons for not taking up a position without cover when available in the vicinity of the 900 metres. Jockey K W Leong stated that he had been instructed to settle in a second or third position if possible and from the vicinity of the 1000 metres when intending to position close to the rail had been conscious of a rider calling to his inside. After considering this explanation the Stewards was satisfied that Jockey K H Leong had made an attempt to obtain cover but he had been prevented by his mount being inclined to lay away from runners to its inside.

Jockey K M Chin the rider of 5 Happy School Boy explained that after being slightly slow to jump 5 Happy School Boy had travelled well and raced in its usual forward position, He stated near the 800 metres his mount had clipped heels but thereafter had continued to travelled well until the vicinity of the 300 metres when it was immediately under pressure and struggled to maintain its position. Jockey K M Chin added that his mount appeared to have pulled up well following the race and he could offer no other explanation than this race being stronger than its most recent start, the effect of the weight penalty from that win and the fact that the gelding might have preferred the rain affected going to its last 2 previous starts.

VETERINARY:
5 Happy School Boy (K M Chin) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
