Race Report

RACE-9 THE GALIVANTER RATING 70-50 (CLASS 3) 1400 METRES (386)

As Jockey R Silvera had been stood down by the Club’s Medical officer, the Stewards gave permission for Apprentice C Perkins to be substituted as the rider of 11 Luen Yat Nediym.

3 Gold Coast (A Calder) -The Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 6:05pm acting on veterinary advice that the horse was suffering from swelling to its neck.
5 Energy Gladiator (R B Woodworth) -Shortly after the start was inconvenienced when tightened for room.
6 Hero Winner (Apprentice Y M Choi) -Jumped awkwardly.
13 Sunshine Spirit (K K Lai) -The Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 6:09pm acting on veterinary advice that it was lame in the left foreleg.
14 Diamond Whirlwind (L Jurado) -Shortly after the start was inconvenienced when tightened for room.

INQUIRY:

The Stewards sought an explanation from Apprentice Y M Choi with regards to his riding of 6 Hero Winner and in particular to the circumstances in which 9 My Lucky Baby (B Yamzon) improved inside his mount near the 600 metres. Apprentice Y M Choi explained that he had been instructed to lead if possible however if he was forced to work to try and save some energy for the finish. Apprentice Y M Choi stated that the horse had a heavy mouth and was inclined to shift about in running.
Trainer M C Tam confirmed his instructions and admitted that they were not consist to those provided to riders at its most recent starts on the sand track. He stated that in providing these instructions he had intended to respond to his opinion that horses racing forward today were advantaged. Trainer M C Tam was issued with a reprimanded and advised in future he would be expected to inform the Stewards of changes to instructions.
After considering Apprentice Y M Choi’s explanation he was advise that his standard of riding apparent in this raced concerned the Stewards in that it fell below the standard expected and was informed that similar efforts in future would result in action being taken.

VETERINARY:
7 Rayson (K M Chin) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
1 Boy From The Bay (M Cangas) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Hero Winner ( Y M Choi) – Trainer was informed to present the horse to the Veterinary Cliniic for a thorough Veterinary examination on Monday, 1 July 2013
