Race Report

RACE-1 THE LISTOWEL RATING 40-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1950 METRES (28)
At 1:43pm Mr. S Chow the trainer of 3 Kao's Star (W T Pao) which lead at its previous start advised the Stewards that as the horse was up considerably to the distance of today’s race, he would instruct Jockey W T Pao if possible to obtain cover in order to have the horse relax and finish of the race.

1 Count Versuvius (A Calder) -Shortly after the start was inconvenienced for some distance when crowded for room; In the early stages when being restrained its saddle slipped forward disadvantaging his rider who reported mid race he had elected to allow his mount to stride forward in an attempt to have the saddle shift back but was unsuccessful.
3 Kao's Star (W T Pao) -From the 800 metres raced three wide without cover.
6 Shadow Master (F Durso) -Jumped awkwardly and was then hampered when tightened for room.
7 Sunshine Cheer Up (H Lam) -On jumping away shifted in and had its hindquarters turned out when contacting another runner.
9 The Rebel (L Jurado) -Inside the 300 metres was obliged to ease to avoid heels.
11 Sleeping Princess (K W Leong) -The rider reported that in the straight his mount shortened stride under pressure.

INQUIRY:

The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 9 The Rebel (L Jurado) had to ease inside the 300 metres. The Stewards established that 9 The Rebel was obliged to ease to avoid the heels of 6 Shadow Master (F Durso) which shifted out when improving. Jockey F Durso was reprimanded and advised in future to ensure that when shifting ground his mounts are sufficiently clear.

Jockey L Corrales the rider of 2 Silk Cut explained given his mount’s previous run and that it had been working well he had expected 2 Silk Cut to perform in a similar manner to its previous start. He stated that he was satisfied with 2 Silk Cut position in running however when the pace quicken in the vicinity of the 600 metres his mount was off the bit thereafter and had not finished its raced off as he had expected.

1 Count Versuvius (A Calder) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Silk Cut (L Corrales) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Sleeping Princess (K W Leong) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
