Race Report

RACE-3 THE GOULBURN RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (49)

1 Happy And Healthy (K W Leong) –Jumped awkwardly; In the vicinity of the1100 metres for some distance raced keenly and was inclined to shift about when restrained. Inside the 300 metres was disappointed when attempting to improve outside 11 Wind Chaser (K Abobo) which shifted out.
3 Sunshine Spirit (Apprentice Y M Choi) - Rider reported his horse laid out throughout the event.

10 Mission Fame (W L Ho) –Examined prior to the start and ruled fit to start; Was slow to jump. Rider reported he had concern with his mount’s action during the event. Inside the 300 meters altered course consequent to interference ahead.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 3 Sunshine Spirit (Apprentice Y M Choi) was disappointed when attempting to improve into a run between 11 Wind Chaser (K Abobo) and 12 Chinese Dragon (R Stewart) inside the 300 metres. It was established that as 1 Happy And Healthy (K W Leong) improved into the run, its running was taken by 11 Wind Chaser as a result of that horse being taken out by 4 Come Easy (K M Chin). As a result 1 Happy And Healthy was forced to check and was taken out onto 12 Chinese Dragon which was inconvenienced. Jockey K M Chin pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that the permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear. Jockey K M Chin’s licence to ride was suspended for a period of 3 racemeetings to take effect for the racemeetings of 26th October, 1st and 2nd November 2013. He was advised of his Right of Appeal at 5:18pm.

The Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey W L Ho the rider of 10 Mission Fame into his riding of the horse in this event and in particular from the 1200 metres until the vicinity of the 400 metres. Jockey W L Ho stated that prior to the start he had sought the Veterinary Surgeon to examine his mount’s right foreleg. He said had been instructed to try and have the horse which has a poor record at the start of its races, to jump well and obtain a good position. He explained that he felt 10 Mission Fame had walked out of the barrier and had not travelled well during the race as in his opinion it was on the wrong leg and after entering the straight he felt it had changed lead legs and thereafter made up several lengths under pressure. He added that after the race he again requested the Veterinary Surgeon to examine his mount. After considering his explanation the Stewards adjourned this inquiry to a date and time to be fixed to allow them to review the horse’s recent starts and its veterinary record.

VETERINARY:
1 Happy And Healthy (K W Leong) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Come Easy (K M Chin) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
12 Chinese Dragon (R Stewart)- A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Victory Magnum (R Silvera)- A post race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had suffered a bleeding attack.
10 Mission Fame (W L Ho) Trainer Pat Lee was informed that he would be required to present the horse to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 20 October 2013.
