Race Report

RACE-3 SJM CHARITY TROPHY RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1400 METRES (222)

1 Florence Elite (B Yamzon) –Jumped awkwardly; Cast its right hind plate.
2 Spaceage Eagle (A Calder) –Inside the 300 metres was disappointed and obliged to alter course when attempting to improve between 3 Wonder Alloy and 12 Sunshine Gladiator which shifted out.
4 Boy From The Bay (C Perkins) –Passing the 800 metres was inclined to roll out;
From the 700 metres raced wide; Near the 600 metres was eased away from heels.
7 Ruling Elite (W L Ho) –Jumped awkwardly; From inside the 800 metres raced in restricted room for some distance.
8 Tornado Force (J Matthews) –In the straight was inclined to lay out under pressure.
9 Care Free Express (C F Chan) –Near the 200 metres was obliged to ease when tightened for room.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 2 Spaceage Eagle (A Calder) was disappointed for a run after entering the straight. The Stewards established that when attempting to improve into a run 2 Spaceage Eagle received pressure from 3 Wonder Alloy (H Lam) which rolled in and 12 Sunshine Gladiator (K H Yu) which rolled out after initially being taken out marginally by 1 Florence Elite (B Yamzon). As the Stewards determined no rider to be culpable, no action was taken.

The Stewards inquired into the circumstances lost 9 Care Free Express (C F Chan) lost its rightful running near the 200 metres. The Stewards established that 9 Care Free Express lost its rightful running when tightened for room by 6 Luen Yat Sure Win (L Corrales) which had been taken out by 3 Wonder Alloy (H Lam). Jockey H Lam was reprimanded and advised to take greater care in future.

Jockey C Perkins the rider of 4 Boy From The Bay explained that he had been instructed to lead if possible however with the apparent early pace in the race, if he was unable to lead to allow the horse to settle where his mount was comfortable with the expectation that it may settle 3rd or 4th. Jockey C Perkins said that coming back from a race of a longer distance at its previous start 4 Boy From The Bay was unable to match other runners for speed but settled where he had expected. He stated that approaching the 400 metres when trailing 11 Fast Mi (Apprentice C F Wong) he was forced to ease away from heels as that runner commenced to give ground. He added that in the straight his mount had responded generously under pressure.

6 Luen Yat Sure Win (L Corrales) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
