Race Report

RACE-5 MACAU GOLDEN GROUP CHARITY TROPHY RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1100 METRES (224)

1 Companion (R Silvera) –From the outside was taken across the back of the field to be position closer to the inside rail; After entering the straight was inclined to lay out; From inside the 1200 metres had difficulty obtaining clear ground.
3 Borrett Boy (J Matthews) –Raced wide for the majority of the event.
7 Trust My Bet (M Cangas) –Near the 600 metres was forced to ease off heels.
8 Sunshine Champion (L Corrales) –In the vicinity of the 400 metres dipped on two occasions.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards sought an explanation of Jockey A Calder the rider of 6 I Got Pictures as to the reasons that horse settled further back than anticipated. Jockey A Calder explained that he had been instructed to go forward and if possible to obtain a trailing position behind the speed. He stated that there was greater speed than he anticipated and rather than push 6 I Got Pictures he elected to settle further back to the inside rail to allow his mount to travel comfortably. He said that in the straight 6 I Got Pictures had made ground under pressure.

Jockey R Silvera the rider of 1 Companion explained that he had been instructed to attempt to obtain a trailing position and ride for luck as in the stable’s opinion there was an abundance of speed in the race. He said that in early stages he had to niggle 1 Companion to maintain its position, however in the straight his mount had made ground between runners although over the concluding stages had difficulty obtaining clear running. The Stewards will interview Trainer J Lau had not trained publicly in the past 7 days as required by the rules.

8 Sunshine Champion (L Corrales) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Sure Win (W L Ho) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
