Race Report

RACE-4 THE MILESIAN (TURF) RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1200 METRES (303)

1 Charming Beijing (R Curatolo) –Jumped awkwardly
2 China Cheers (C Perkins) –Making the turn inside the 700 metres was inconvenienced when tightened for room.
3 Golden Well Bo Bo (A Calder) –Reared as the gates opened; Near the 1100 metres forced to ease to avoid heels. Making the turn near the 700 metres was inconvenienced as its hindquarter was turn out; Raced wide throughout the event.
4 Turquoise Lucky (Apprentice C F Wong) –Jumped awkwardly
5 Florence Baby (J Matthews) –Near the 1100 metres got its head up when momentarily tightened.
6 Golden Champ (B Yamzon) –Shortly after the start was hampered losing its position when contacted by 7 Chinese Scholar. Near the 600 metres was obliged to steady as it improved onto the heels.
7 Chinese Scholar (R Silvera) –Jumped awkwardly and was then inconvenienced as it contacted 6 Golden Champ.
8 Ruling Elite (K K Lai) –Near the 700 metres as the pace eased was forced to steady off heels and when in being steady shifted out.
9 Florence Elite (M Cangas) –Near the 1100 metres was obliged to ease when tightened for room. Raced wide throughout the event.
10 Diamond Star (Apprentice Y M Choi)- Making the turn in the 700 metres was inconvenienced when momentary tighten for room.
11 Care Free Express (L Corrales)-
12 Companion (H Lam) - Near the finish had difficulty obtaining clear running.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired in the circumstances in which 3 Golden Well Bo Bo (A Calder) and 9 oFlorence Elite (M Cangas) were tightened for room near the 1100 metres. It was established that 1 Charming Beijing (R Curatolo) shifted in across the running of 3 Golden Well Bo Bo tightening that horse onto 9 Florence Elite resulting in both runners being eased. After considering the evidence and reviewing the official vision, Jockey R Curatolo was reprimanded and advised in future to give riders to his inside the room to which they are entitled.

The Stewards questioned Jockey H Lam the rider of 12 Companion into his riding in this race and in particularly his level of vigour from the 600 metres until the vicinity of the 100 metres. Jockey H Lam stated that his mount had been under pressure for the entire race and from the vicinity of the 150 metres he had used the whip. He stated that earlier in the straight he had been unable to use the whip as in his opinion there was no clear running available to him. After considering his explanations, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed to permit them to examine 12 Companion’s previous starts and for Trainer J Lau to be present. In addition, the Stewards ordered that 12 Companion undergo a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 27th April 2014.

4 Turquoise Lucky(Apprentice C F Wong) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
