Race Report

RACE-1 THE PRINCE BIO (TURF) RATING 30-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1500 METRES (300)

1 Sunshine Flyer (C Perkins) –On jumping brushed with 4 Sealand Treasure; Near the 1200 metres was forced to steady and lost its position when tightened for room.
2 Luen Yat Sequalo (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Shortly after the start was taken in and then forced to ease when tightened for room; Near the 1300 metres was inconvenienced and forced to shift out to avoid heels; Raced wide throughout the event.
3 Windsor Arch Two (W L Ho) –In the middle stages was inclined to race keenly.
4 Sealand Treasure (L Corrales) –On jumping brushed with 1 Sunshine Flyer; Near the 1200 metres as the paced eased became unbalanced for several strides when awkwardly placed.
6 Hungpaoshaq (J Matthews) –Shortly after the start was forced to ease when tightened for room.
7 Ratnaraj (K K Lai) –Was slow to jump.
8 Triple Fortune (A Calder) –Inside the 700 metres brushed the inside rail; The rider reported that from the 700 metres to the 400 metres his mount had continued to lay in onto the inside rail and had required him having to correct it on a number of occasions.
9 Florence Spirit (R Curatolo) –Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
12 Fortune Friends (K H Yu) –Near the 1200 metres was inconvenienced as its hindquarters were turned out.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 2 Luen Yat Sequalo (Apprentice Y M Choi) and 6 Hungpaoshaq (J Matthews) were tightened shortly after the start. It was established on jumping that 9 Florence Spirit (R Curatolo) had angled in taking 2 Luen Yat Sequalo in onto 6 Hungpaoshaq tightening that horse against 5 Taiki Shuttle (W T Pao) resulting in both 2 Luen Yat Sequalo and 6 Hungpaoshaq racing together prior to being eased. Jockey R Curatolo was advised that in similar circumstances in future he would be expected to make an attempt to relieve pressure to the riders to his inside.

The Stewards inquired into the circumstances in which 1 Sunshine Flyer (C Perkins) lost its position near the 1200 metres. It was established that near the 1200 metres as the pace eased 4 Sealand Treasure (L Corrales) which had improved outside the heels of 8 Triple Fortune (A Calder) laid out onto 1 Sunshine Flyer taking that horse out onto the hindquarters of 12 Fortune Friends (K H Yu) which as its hindquarters were turned out commenced to lay in. As the Stewards determined that the incident largely occurred due to the pace easing and that Jockey K H Yu the rider of 12 Fortune Friends had been unable to relieve the pressure due to the position of 9 Florence Spirit (R Curatolo) to his outside, the Stewards took no action, other than to advise Jockey L Corrales and Jockey K H Yu to in future take greater care.
