Race Report

RACE-6 THE BELEM RATING 80-60 (CLASS 2&3) 1500 METRES (395)

1 Best Season (W Smith) – Was slow to begin (1L).
3 Lucky Winston (L Salles) – Had a tendency to lay in in the straight; Rider was fined the sum of HK$2,000 for dropping his whip near the 200 metres; In arriving at penalty the Steward took into account his recent poor record in relation to dropping his whip.
7 Diamond Star (C F Wong) – Rider explained that he had been instructed to lead if possible however due to the amount of speed to his outside he elected to allow those runners to cross him and he settled his mount where it was comfortable; He added it was not entirely happy in today’s heavy track conditions.
8 Power Speedy (J Cordero) – Was slow to begin (1L).

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
When questioned regarding his riding of 9 Belgrade Nights rounding the home turn, Jockey K W Leong explained that horse was not comfortable in its action and he was attempting to keep it balanced whilst urging it along. He added that stayed wider on the track as he felt the going was superior. The Stewards advised K W Leong that he would be expected to show far more vigour than he did on this occasion at the critical point of the race. He was further advised that the Stewards would be closely monitoring his riding in future.

VETERINARY:
7 Diamond Star (C F Wong) –A post race veterinary examination revealed that it was lame in the right foreleg. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
