Race Report

RACE-4 SJM MACAU DERBY (TRIPLE CROWN - 2nd Leg) (GROUP 1) (TURF) 4YO 1800 METRES (346)
At 1:14pm Mr Danny Wong, representative of Trainer V Chong, advised that from the wide barrier he would instruct Jockey W L Ho to ride 5 Best Season back in the field in order to obtain a position closer to the rail.

1 Hostwin Donatello (J Moreira)-Near the 1200 metres was severely hampered when taken out in attempting to avoid 8 Sunshine Kingdom which lost its momentum.
3 Sunshine Full Life (O Doleuze)-Making the turn near the 1400 metres when being restrained was inclined to race keenly and then jumped the entrance to the crossing. In the straight was inclined to race greenly and shift about. Rider reported that he had difficulty in controlling his mount throughout the race.
4 Sunshine Stormy (T Berry)- Making the crossing near the 1300 metres became awkward on heels and obliged to steady. Near the 1200 metres was inconvenienced when taken wider.
6 Peacock Pearl (B Yamzon)-Near the 1200 metres was hampered when forced to steady to avoid interference.
8 Sunshine Kingdom (R Curatolo)-Near the 1200 metres struck the running rail and became awkward for several strides. Trainer Y Y Choy was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
9 Sunshine Spirit (C Perkins)-Making the turn inside the 1400 metres was forced to race in restricted room for some distance. Near the 1200 metres when inclined to lay out was forced to check when tightened for room.
10 Turquoise Choice (K H Yu)-Passing the winning post on first occasion was inclined to lay in and away from runners to its outside. In the vicinity of 1200 metres continuous to lay in and away from runners to its outside. Near the 1200 metres was forced to check to avoid heels.
12 Sunshine Winner (L Corrales)-Making the turn near the 1400 metres hung out and became awkward on heels for some distance. Near the 1200 metres was hampered when forced to steady to avoid interference. Trainer Y Y Choy was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the circumstance in which 9 Sunshine Spirit (C Perkins) was forced to check approaching the 1200 metres. it was established that making the crossing 4 Sunshine Stormy (T Berry) when racing three horse wide had shifted out away the heels of 3 Sunshine Full Life (O Doleuze) and when shifting back to its original 3 wide position 10 Turquoise Choice (K H Yu) had been inclined to shifted in and away resulting in 9 Sunshine Spirit which had commenced to lay out being tightened for room and forced to check. After reviewing the official vision the Stewards took no action as they considered the racing manners of 9 Sunshine Spirit and 10 Turquoise Choice had contributed to this incident.

The Stewards inquired into the circumstance in which 8 Sunshine Kingdom (R Curatolo) struck the running rail near the 1200 metres. It was established that near the 1200 metres 8 Sunshine Kingdom when racing inside runners became intimidated as 2 Best Co Tack (M Nunes) eased into a trailing position one horse wide and made heavy contact with the running rail becoming severely unbalanced. After taking the evidence and reviewing the official vision the Stewards took no action as they were satisfied the racing manners of 8 Sunshine Kingdom were solely responsible to the incident.

2 Best Co Tack (M Nunes)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Sunshine Kingdom (R Curatolo)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
12 Sunshine Winner (L Corrales)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
