Race Report

RACE-6 OCEANUS CUP(SAND MILE) (GROUP 3) (SAND) OPEN 1600 METRES (348)
At 3:40pm, Mr K C Hoi the Trainer of 2 Luen Yat Everwin (C Perkins) advised the Stewards that due to the apparent lack of pace of the race he had instructed Jockey C Perkins to be positive from the barrier and attempt to settle on pace if possible.

2 Luen Yat Everwin (C Perkins)-Made the turn out of the straight wide.
4 Geely Spirit (J Moreira)-From the 400 metres commenced to give ground. Post race veterinary examination revealed the horse exhibited symptoms of heat stress and first aid was provided.
9 Flaming Star (R Silvera)-Passing the winning post was obliged to ease when awkwardly placed.

INQUIRY:
Jockey L Corrales the rider of 1 Oakcrest Drive explained he had attempted to ride his mount in a similar manner to it’s last start when successful. He said he had obtained a similar position in running however when making the turn off the back straight his mount had been obliged to cover some additional ground due to 6 Belgrade Nights (A Calder) improving to it’s inside and thereafter his mount has finished off its race in its usual manner. He said in his opinion 1 Oakcrest Drive might not have been suited by a slightly slower track and the mid race sectional had not been to his mount’s advantage.

VETERINARY:
1 Oakcrest Drive (L Corrales)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Geely Spirit (J Moreira)-A post race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was suffering heat stress.
6 Belgrade Nights (A Calder)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Sunshine Region (Apprentice Y M Choi)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Sunshine Gladiator (K K Lai)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
