Race Report

RACE-2 THE GEISHA RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1350 METRES (349)

1 Everything Good (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Raced four wide without cover;
2 Full Of Vitality (R Stewart) –Refused to jump and took no part in the event; Trainer K S Cheong was advised that 2 Full Of Vitality will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.
4 Happiness In Peace (A Calder) –Shifted out when the gates were released taking 9 Crowning Mission out off its course; Raced keenly in the middle stages; Poor performance; Rider reported that his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure ;A post race veterinary examination was ordered by the Stewards.
8 Captain Genuki (J Cordero) –Was slow to begin (1L);
10 Beautiful Illusion (K H Yu) –Raced keenly in the middle stages.
11 Gem Fighter (C F Wong) –Knuckled on jumping away was then bumped by 9 Crowning Mission which shifted out abruptly, then had to be checked off the heels of 10 Beautiful Illusion.
13 Krun (Apprentice K Y Wong) –Raced five wide without cover

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Jockey L Salles rider of 3 Shame On You, 5th placed getter pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence under MJC Rule 14 (xvii)(a) for failing to ride his mount to the winning post and was fined the sum of HK$6,000. When considering the penalty, the Stewards arrived at the decision that his actions had cost his mount 4th placing, they also took into account that this was his first offence, his forth right evidence throughout the inquiry and his guilty plea. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

When questioned as to why his mount settled at the rear which is in contrast to his normal racing pattern, Jockey D Chong the rider of 12 Qiao Tou Win explained that his instruction was similar to that of recent starts and the reason for his mount settling further back today than expected was due to the fast pace of the event. He added he allowed his mount to race where it was comfortable and with cover.

VETERINARY:
4 Happiness In Peace (A Calder) – A post race veterinary examination of 4 Happiness In Peace which performed poorly failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
