Race Report

RACE-6 THE LISMORE RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (72)

1 Anson (R Stewart) -Checked near the 1300 metres.
2 Golden Cornered (W T Pao) -Jumped awkwardly and shifted in.
4 Happy And Healthy (R Silvera) -Tightened at the start between 1 Anson and 2 Golden Cornered which shifted in.
5 Trust My Bet (W L Ho) -Raced wide rounding the first turn.
7 Best Co Tack (A Calder) –Raced keenly rounding the first turn and was inconvenienced by 6 Classical Music which shifted in.
8 Macau Good (K Abobo) –Near the 1300 metres steadied when awkwardly placed near the heels of 1 Anson.
10 Hand By Hand (K M Lei) -Near the 1300 metres was hampered.Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.

INQUIRY
The Stewards inquired into the circumstances 1 Anson (R Stewart) had to check near the 1300 metres. Jockey C Perkins the rider of 6 Classical Music was found guilty of a careless riding charge under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 7 Best Co Tack (A Calder) taking that runner in onto 10 Hand By Hand (K M Lei) which in turn shifted in tightening the running of 1 Anson (R Stewart) which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey C Perkins pleaded guilty to the charge and was suspended from riding in races for 1 racemeeting to take effect for the meeting of Friday, 8th November 2013. In addition he was fined the sum of HK$15,000 in lieu of 1 additional racemeeting. He was advised of his Right of Appeal at 6:28pm.

When questioned regarding his ride on 10 Hand By Hand in particular the reason for leaving a trailing position behind 6 Classical Music (C Perkins) near the 1100 metres, Jockey K M Lei stated that he was instructed to take a lead position if possible or alternatively obtain a position outside the leader as the horse performs better when afforded clear running. He explained that after receiving interference rounding the first turn, he found himself in a mid field position following 6 Classical Music however 10 Hand By Hand commenced to over race. As a result he then elected to shift to a 3 wide position and allowed 10 Hand By Hand to stride forward in an attempt to ride to his instructions. He added that near the 600 metres he attempted to restrain 10 Hand By Hand to obtain cover behind 3 Super Giant Star (L Corrales) however the gelding was not travelling comfortably so he elected to allow 10 Hand By Hand to stride freely. He further added that leaving the 500 metres 10 Hand By Hand commenced to weaken and did not run on in the home straight under pressure. After considering the evidence, the Stewards noted Jockey K M Lei’s explanation however advised him that although he was trying to follow instructions, he must ensure that he rides in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

1 Anson (R Stewart) – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
