Race Report

RACE-1 THE MAJOR PORTION (DIVISION – 2) RATING 50-30 (CLASS 4&5) 1300 METRES (1)
SUNSHINE CHEERS (APPRENTICE C F WONG) and MACAU GOOD HORSE (H LAM) bumped on jumping away.
NUMBER ONE (R J PEREZ) was a little slow to begin.
KA YUK FORTUNE (M NUNES) and RANSOM POWER (K F CHOI) jumped away awkwardly.
HARD WORKING (K H YU) hung out rounding the first turn.
MACAU GOOD HORSE (H LAM) raced wide rounding the first turn.
Approaching the 800 metres SUNSHINE CHEERS (APPRENTICE C F WONG) which was hanging in, shifted in, carrying FUNNIEST (C W CHOI) inwards. FUNNIEST then shifted in and made contact with MR AUCTIONEER (K W LEONG).
SUNSHINE CHEERS (APPRENTICE C F WONG) raced wide until passing the 600 metres.
Approaching the 600 metres HARD WORKING (K H YU) improved onto the heels of KA YUK FORTUNE (M NUNES) and had to be steadied.
HARD WORKING (K H YU) hung out rounding the home turn and for the entire length of the home straight.
AQUATIC STAR (APPRENTICE J PESCUISO) lay in under pressure in the home straight.
Passing the 200 metres SUNSHINE CHEERS (APPRENTICE C F WONG) which lay in was steadied by its rider when momentarily tightened for room between RANSOM POWER (K F CHOI) which shifted in and away from RUSHAROUND (K M CHIN) and FUNNIEST (C W CHOI) which shifted out. ZEUS (W T PAO) which was following had to alter course abruptly to avoid the heels of SUNSHINE CHEERS. Jockey C W CHOI the rider of the FUNNIEST was issued with a reprimand for allowing his mount to shift ground outwards in the home straight.
Jockey R J PEREZ was questioned regarding his ride in particular approaching the 200 metres where he appeared to momentarily relax on his mount. He stated that his mount felt awkward in its stride at that point and he was endeavouring to balance his mount. The Stewards advised him that he should ensure he rides his mounts with sufficient vigour so as not to leave any doubts.
RANSOM POWER (K F CHOI), RUSHAROUND (K M CHIN) and AQUATIC STAR (APPRENTICE J PESCUISO) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of KA YUK FORTUNE (M NUNES) failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
Subsequent to the race, swab samples were taken from RUSHAROUND (K M CHIN) and FUNNIEST (C W CHOI).
